WINDOW EXHIBITION
Julian Slagman | a failed attempt to photograph reality
5th July – 10th August

During the summer we will once again be presenting an exhibition in the windows of the gallery. While the main gallery space takes a pause until mid August you will be able to see Julian Slagman’s photographic installation 'a failed attempt to photograph reality' in our large front windows facing out onto Stora Nygatan. We will open the show on Saturday 5th of July between 14.00 and 16.00.

Julian Slagman’s installation will consist of 165 hand-printed, monochrome photographs in the format of 130x90mm, taped to the window in a grid formation. The exhibition takes its title from a text by artist Duane Michals, who explores the philosophical limitations of photography in capturing reality. Written in ink
on photographic fiber paper, the text expresses skepticism about the medium’s ability to depict anything beyond surface appearances.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a risograph-printed catalogue which will be launched at the opening. The publication features images alongside texts by Julian Slagman and Avi Bolotinsky.

Julian Slagman (b. 1993, Hamburg) is a German-Dutch photographer and artist currently based in Malmö. He studied photography at Neue Schule für Fotografie in Berlin, HFBK Hamburg, and HDK-Valand in Gothenburg. His work has been exhibited at Deichtorhallen Hamburg, Paris Photo and throughout Europe, including Berlin, Frankfurt, Friedrichshafen, Copenhagen, and Gothenburg.
His debut book, Looking at My Brother, published by Disko Bay (DK) in 2024, was nominated for the 2025 Swedish Photobook Prize.
